When I started with makeup, I was so into eyeshadows. I didn't know any better and I always wondered why my eyeshadow fades within 30 minutes of application. It has always been a problem. It took me awhile to realize that I was skipping an important step in my makeup application. I wasn't putting any primer or base on my eyelids.
What is an eye primer?
-Eye primer is a base that you put on your lids prior to eyeshadow application to even out the skintone, makes the eyeshadow last longer and some claim that it makes the color of the eyeshadow more vibrant and true to its color.
Its purpose is plain and simple right? But the number of different kinds of eye primer available in the market can be a bit overwhelming when you're trying to find the right one that works for you.

Urban Decay Primer Potion $16.00
my very first eye primer

Keep in mind that we all have different eyelids so this may or may not work for you. This is what works for me and I like to share it with all of you ^_^
What is your eye primer??
Happy Halloween!!!!!!!!!!!

my very first eye primer
I'm pretty sure these are all great products. On the other hand, I've tried some of them and it just didn't work for me. I've tried Urban Decay primer potion, Too Faced shadow insurance and Mac's Prep and Prime eye. Even with a tiny amount blended evenly on the lids, It still didn't work. Creasing of eyeshadows occured within an hour or two.
But I found out a product that has been sitting in my makeup kit that works so well as an eye primer. My liquid concealer!! Yes, it actually works!

I like to use Almay line smoothing concealer for its creamy texture and anti aging properties. This can be found at any drugstore. You can also use a liquid foundation.
I use my favorite face powder (Mark's powder buff) or you can use a translucent powder and apply it on top of the concealer.

The powder will set the concealer in place.

Wow! Thanks so much for the tip. I don't really use any eye primer. I might try your suggestion though. Waa! I didn't know that tugging or pulling my eyelids can cause premature wrinkles.
ReplyDeletethat's great that you found a great primer from a liquid concealer! :) :) Wow...seldom does UDPP doesn't work! But I guess there's always exception!
ReplyDeleteI use concealer, your blog is really helpful because I didn't know how important it is to apply a base before applying eyeshadow. I always wondered why my eyeshadow was always fading. Now I know the answer so thank you :)
ReplyDeleteOhh you are such a clever cookie!! I would never have thought of this :) I use UDPP but I haven't used all that many others to have a defin. fave. But I'm sooo using this idea :)
ReplyDeleteAnd omg this is sooo spooky with your niece- some people defin. have that somethin' somethin' when it comes to paranormal stuff!!
I haven't heard of that show- but not sure if I could handle it lol
P.S. Happy Halloween :)
ReplyDeleteI've used L'oreal Decrease but it didn't work for me. Eye shadows would start to crease for me within 10 minutes if I don't have a base. The L'oreal Decrease, in my opinion, didn't do anything. I'm currently using Cliche's eye primer and it's actually pretty good. But the last time I wore make-up was at least a week ago. haha.
ReplyDeleteI use a thick mousse foundation which I bought without checking it in daylight first, it turned out to be too dark so I used it as an eye primer instead and it works really well
ReplyDeleteWooaa!~ Thats a lot of tipes of eye shadow bases!
ReplyDeletegod danggg that's a LOT of primers out there! i didnt even know neutrogena has one!
ReplyDeleteI have tried UDPP -- I think it was just ok. Currently using Too Faced and have to say that it's been good to me so far. I'm thinking about giving Smashbox and Mac a try next.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
i do the same thing - use liquid concealer then set with powder. so i'm always on the lookout for a good concealer since it's gonna be multipurpose :)
ReplyDeleteI've wondered if primer would be a good thing for me or not. I guess at the moment I'd question a certain primer's staying power. Meaning I'd like a primer that makes eyeshadow last longer but not too long. I need something that'll also be easy to remove.
ReplyDeleteAt the same time I also hear that some shadows will actually stain your eyelids if you don't have a base and I certainly don't want that either
It seems that Urban Decay Primer Potion is the most popular by far. Or at least it seems that way because I'm always hearing about it in youtube videos.
ReplyDeletewow concealer works for you! I would've never guessed :) But geez, there's so many primers in the market these days but I don't think anyone has really ventured off from udpp and tfsi and maybe the smashbox one..
ReplyDeleteThe MK eyeprimer is not bad but it did not work has good as the Urban Decay Primer Potion!
ReplyDeleteit does not mean that just becouse it does not work that well on me that it won't work on others!!
please check out my blog. ive nominated u for an award!! :D
ReplyDeletei sometimes like to use concealer on my lids, THEN primer when i go out! during the day i keep it simple w jst primer. thanx for the list and pix of primers!! i like the ones w wands rather than pots.. so it gave me things to look for!!
