WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT
• Formula is jet-milled into ultra-fine particles for an air-soft, ultra-silky texture
• The suede-touch puff smoothes onto skin evenly, effortlessly, for the most beautiful matte perfection (taken from maybelline.com)

WHEN: Permanent

WHERE: Drugstores
retail price: $8.23. Price varies depending on location.

What a shame! One of most talked about drugstore face powder is only available in 4 shades? I bought the darkest shade a long time ago with hopes of making it work on me. Fail. It was way too light on my medium/tan skin tone. See what it looks like HERE. If you're reading this Maybelline, please make darker shades!

  1. Aww, that sucks that it was too light for you. This is one of my fav products! And it really is a shame that the shades are so limited! :(

  2. This is the only maybelline dream matte product that works for me. I have dry skin but this works, the rest of the range except the dream satin liquid foundation don't work for me. Love this tho, and aww :( hate it when I buy a product too light for my skin or something x

  3. im sorry it didnt work out! i notice that with maybelline products actually! its hard to match your skin tone. Im usually ivory with all products, and i bought ivory, which was their lightest shade and it was soo dark on me, i looked crazy! i forget which product...i think a mousse one!

  4. Maybelline actually did make darker colors for the Dream Matte powder but they discontinued them about 2-3 years ago. I actually have Dark in Latte that I bought from Big Lots on closeout for $1. Fortunately, my mom and me bought 4 to stock up as they were so cheap. At the time, I had never tried the product but thought we'd give it a go and lucky for us, it's the perfect shade. I'm an NC37-40 (depending on the season).

Why Maybelline discontinued the darker shades, who knows! I thought it was a very bad move on their part, considering how popular the powder is!

  5. Interesting, only 4 shades? That is not good! For a permanent item, I would hope they'd have at least more to accommodate skin tones that are in between their 4 colors or darker. Yikes!

  6. I find it to be a bit thick and fluffy, doesn't seem to want to settle into my skin, kind of sits on top. It does mattify extremely well though. Also the puff is terrible, I actually cut myself with the edge of the fabric that covers the top.

Loreal true match powder comes in a lot of shades... it's not a bad powder. I find it looks very natural, but does not last as long as I would like. My fav right now is NYC loose powder, I'm not sure how many shades it comes in.. I wear translucent... but it's extremely cheap. Works great for setting powder over every base I have tried. I pounce it on with a brush, then blend the excess. Mattifies without looking chalky, settles to a natural finish, does not cake or settle into lines/wrinkles even under the eyes. I suggest instead of removing the sticker that covers the holes in the sifter, use something to poke out just a few of them, makes it a lot easier to handle without as much mess. I also have the compact version and it is fine for touch ups but I prefer the loose, it seems to have a finer consistency. I would also suggest Black Radiance if you have a darker skin tone- I have loved everything I have tried from them, their primer is HG for me, I wear it everyday even if I'm not wearing foundation. I have very fair skin though so I have never tried their face products.

    1. Oh man, that sucks it didn't work for you. But thank you for recommendation. I have NYC loose powder and I haven't tried it yet. I will use it and I'll see how much I like it. Anything mattifying is cool in my book. Have a great one!

  7. i love this product but i was never able to find my shade :( in my opinion they should put the money into it and come up with more shades.....i mean come on the world is more than 4 shades in color. thankfully i found a shade perfect for and still with maybeline. the instant age rewind eraser in shade 300 came to my rescue, it doesn't dry out my skin during winter and its not oily in the summer. just perfect for me. thanks.
