The Body Shop Extra Virgin Minerals liquid foundation Review/Swatch

A not so new liquid foundation I'm loving at the moment is The Body Shop Extra Virgin Minerals liquid foundation. It's what I reach for the most whenever I do my makeup. I started using it back when I used to work at The Body Shop. I've tried every single foundation in the store and this is the best one. Truuuust me! I used it on myself and clients whenever I did their makeup. I love the finish, coverage and wear. It's a great foundation.

PRODUCT CLAIMThe Body Shop says, "This liquid mineral foundation is a unique combination of pure minerals and cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil. It provides light to medium, ultra-blendable coverage with a smooth, dewy finish.

My shade is 305 Natural Beige. It has yellow under tone and is a tad lighter against my medium/tan skin tone. But it still works as long as I set it with a darker face powder. The swatches online aren't reliable. I suggest go to The Body Shop store to get color match. As far as shade selection, they have 10 shades available from pale to medium/deep skin tone. They don't have shades for deeper skin tone, which sucks. I remember women with deep skin tone wanting their makeup done, but none of the foundations matched their skin. I hope they expand on their shade selection in the future.

The liquid foundation is a creamy yet a tad thick at the same time. It can be streaky if applied the wrong way. I suggest to avoid using your fingers to apply and use a beauty blender or a thick flat top kabuki brush instead to avoid streaks. The coverage is light to medium. One layer gives me medium coverage. It's enough to even out my skin tone. I can always add another layer if needed.

I absolutely love the finish. It gives my face a natural dewy finish. Not greasy but dewy. I don't recommend it to people with oily skin though. I have extremely oily skin in the Summer and that dewy turns to greasy if you put too much, so be careful.

It last all day with the help of a face primer and setting powder.

Water (Solvent/Diluent), Undecane (Emollient), Coco-Caprylate (Skin Conditioning Agent), Talc (Absorbent/Bulking Agent), Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (Sunscreen), PEG-30 Dipolyhydroxystearate (Emulsifier), Tridecane (Emollient), Glycerin (Humectant), Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil (Emollient), Titanium Dioxide (Sunscreen), Disteardimonium Hectorite (Suspending Agent), Ethylene Brassylate (Masking Agent), Calcium Carbonate (Absorbant), Sodium Chloride (Viscosity Modifier), Caprylyl Glycol (Skin Conditioning Agent), Tocopherol (Antioxidant), Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil (Skin Conditioning Agent), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Triethoxycaprylylsilane (Binder), Magnesium Stearate (Anticaking Agent), Ethylhexylglycerin (Skin-Conditioning Agent), Hexylene Glycol (Humectant), Aluminum Hydroxide (Opacifier). [May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (Colour), Iron Oxides (Colour)].

Ugh...I hate reading through long list of unfamiliar names in ingredients. But all you need to know is that it has Olive Oil, which is beneficial for your skin, especially dry skin ^_^. As far as the minerals properties, I have to be honest and say I have no knowledge about it.

Oh and it also has sunscreen! I almost forgot about this part. I'm not sure how much but it's there. I remember reading it from our training manual and the website but not sure why it's not on the product itself. I wouldn't rely on it as a sunscreen product by itself though.

It retails for $25. Yup, it's pretty steep. However, you can wait for a sale to snag it for a better price. Available at any The Body Shop store or go online at

Pump makes it so much easier to dispense the product.

My hand is way darker than my face so I never match foundation with my hand. I just wanna show the shade.

How it looks on my face. One layer of the foundation. I'm also wearing concealer under my eyes and a little bit of pressed face powder, which definitely adds more coverage.

Overall, I really like this foundation and I highly recommend it only if you have dry skin. I love the medium coverage, dewy finish and natural look it gives my face. Just stay away from it if you have extremely oily skin. Also, it's very comparable to my other favorite MAC Studio Fix Fluid, so if you're a fan of MAC, then you'll like this one a lot.
